BECOME A HOST FAMILY

The Japan-America Society of Georgia will help welcome students from Japan to Atlanta for Obirin University’s College of Business Management Global Outreach Program. Students will be studying at total of 16 weeks of English at Georgia Tech or Mercer University, while learning how American and Japanese businesses operate in today’s global economy during the last 8 weeks of the program as part of a business practicum lab. The JASG seeks both host and friendship families during the spring and fall semesters to help these students get acclimated to living and going to school in the U.S.

HOST FAMILY

The Japan-America Society of Georgia's Host Family Program (HFP) gives Japanese undergraduate university students the opportunity to become acquainted with local families in the metro-Atlanta area. Students will live with the Host Family that they are paired with for 4 months. The HFP experience provides students with a unique "window into American culture" as families welcome them to the U.S. and help them adjust to life in Atlanta.

Why Host?

  • Meet exceptional students from Japan
  • Introduce your family to a new culture & language
  • Share the unique customs and culture of family life in the U.S., particularly in the Southeast
  • Change the course of a young person's life
  • Receive a $800/month stipend for room & board

Host Families Must Provide

  • Support in helping students get accustomed to and acclimated to living and studying in Atlanta
  • 2 meals a day (breakfast and dinner)
  • A private bedroom with a desk or workspace and WIFI internet connection

FRIENDSHIP  FAMILY

The Japan-America Society of Georgia's  Friendship Family Program (FFP) gives Japanese undergraduate university students the opportunity to become acquainted with local families in the metro-Atlanta area. The Friendship Family Program pairs students with families who welcome them to the U.S. and help them adjust to college life in Atlanta. Students and families get to know one another through occasional visits to host families' homes, going on outings, attending FFP events, and spending special occasions together. The FFP experience provides students with a unique "window into American culture." After being paired, students and families arrange to spend time together on their own as often as mutually desired. Friendship Families may include their student in informal dinners, holiday celebrations, occasional family outings, or any other event that adds to the richness of his/her experience in the U.S.
