The Atlanta Japanese Sword and Cultural Arts Show
The Atlanta Japanese Sword and Cultural Arts Show is making its debut March 6th - 8th, 2020. This is the first time such an event has been held in Atlanta and we are pleased to invite the participation of the Japan-America Society of Georgia. The show centers around the venerable Japanese Sword often called the soul of the Samurai. Today the swords are valued for their artistic and historical value and represent the pinnacle of craftsmanship. Other Japanese arts and crafts are widely represented throughout the show including bronze works, lacquer ware, cloisonné, woodblock prints, scrolls, screens, tea ceremony items, kimono and other Japanese arts. Books, movies, T-shirts and gift items are less expensive pursuits to be found at the show. The show is a treasure trove for the serious collector and curious alike. Educational events at the show include demonstrations of Kyudo (Japanese Archery) and Iaido (a sword discipline). On Saturday the American branch of the NBTHK (a sword study and preservation organization) will host a display and educational discussion of swords taken from the largest collection of Satsuma Swords, Kodogu and related items outside of Japan. Also, Grey Doffin will give instructional talk on sword etiquette and Bobby Block offers a lively discussion on Shinto tanto swords. We will post a complete schedule of events to be found on our website as we get closer to the show. Members of the Japan-America Society will receive a 50% discount on show admission. Everyone is welcome to bring swords and objects of Japanese art to the show for sale, trade or identification. The show is being hosted by the Westin Atlanta Airport Hotel with easy access off the interstate and ample parking. We hope to see you there.
