Aflac was started in Columbus, Georgia, in 1955 and is still headquartered there to this day. The company, widely recognized for the Aflac duck, began operations in Japan in 1974, the same year that the Consulate General of Japan opened its offices in Atlanta. Since then, the company has grown to be one of the largest insurance companies in Japan.
