Moderator & Panelist Bios
Shanti Shoji Shanti Shoji is Director of Programs at Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA, overseeing grants and program development. With 25 years in U.S.-Japan relations, including six years in Japan, which included time on the JET Program, and extensive experience in Washington, DC, she has led key initiatives such as co-founding Kizuna Across Cultures, launching Sasakawa USA Women’s Advancement Network (SWAN), and advancing Women, Peace and Security (WPS) in the U.S.-Japan alliance. She holds an M.A. in International Communications from American University and dual B.A.s in Japanese and International Studies from the University of Oregon.
Scott McMurrayis the Deputy Commissioner for Georgia Quick Start, a premier workforce training program fueling economic growth statewide. Previously, Scott served as the Deputy Commissioner of Global Commerce at the Georgia Department of Economic Development. His global perspective was enriched through the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program, during which he taught English in Miyazaki, Japan. Scott holds an M.A. in English Literature and a B.A. in Economics from Emory University, along with an associate’s degree in Japanese from Southern Japan International College.
Katherine Samford is the Director of the Georgia Tech Language Institute (GTLI), where she has led innovative academic and support programs for international students, including from Japan, since 2009. Passionate about cross-cultural education, her commitment to teaching began during her time with the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program in Japan, an experience that enriched her approach to language instruction and intercultural communication. Katherine holds an M.Ed. from Cambridge College and an M.A. from Georgia State University.
Trevin Dye is the Assistant Director at the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Atlanta, where he plays a key role in strengthening trade ties between Japan and the United States. His journey began with the JET Program, teaching English in various Japanese settings—an experience that deepened his appreciation for the culture and honed his communication skills. Trevin holds a B.A. from Morehouse College and an M.A. from Georgia Tech. He is also the Chairman of The Luxury Council of Atlanta, Owner of Ubiquitous Socials, and President of 2getherGlobal.
