Wish Upon the Milky Way – A Tanabata Evening

Join us for a special evening celebrating Tanabata, one of Japan's most beloved summer festivals.

Tanabata, also known as the Star Festival, is based on the romantic legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi, two stars who are separated by the Milky Way and allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month. During Tanabata, people write their wishes on colorful paper strips called tanzaku and hang them on bamboo branches, hoping their dreams will come true.

At this event, participants will:

• Learn about the history and traditions of Tanabata
• Write wishes on traditional tanzaku wish cards
• Enjoy colorful Tanabata-style somen noodles with star-shaped toppings
• Sample refreshing cold-brew Japanese tea
• Taste a special seasonal Japanese confection that our Outreach Coordinator will bring back from Japan

Whether you are new to Japanese culture or already love Japan, come spend a relaxing summer evening with us and make a wish under the stars.

Advance registration is required for this program. Individuals who do not register prior to the event may not be able to participate due to capacity and planning limitations. By registering, I understand that photos and/or video may be taken at the event and agree that these materials may be used for promotional purposes.
